  • Total Time: 33 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 24 cookies 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ÂĽ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ÂĽ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract (optional)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • Red gel food coloring
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp water
  • 4 oz white fondant
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • Cornstarch or powdered sugar (for rolling)
  • Edible glue or a dab of water
  • Small star-shaped cutter (about 1 inch)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg, yolk, vanilla, and almond extract; mix well. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture and chill for at least an hour.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll chilled dough into balls, coat in powdered sugar, flatten slightly, then create an indent in the center.
  3. Mix red gel food coloring with cornstarch and water to make the crinkle paste; apply it to each cookie's indent.
  4. Bake for 11–13 minutes until set. Cool on wire racks.
  5. For stars, tint fondant blue and roll out both blue and white fondant; cut into star shapes. Attach stars to cooled cookies using edible glue or water.
