- 3 cups plus 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
- 5 tbsp granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon (for coating)
- 1 3/4 tsp ground nutmeg (for coating)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
- In another large bowl, beat together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy.
- Add eggs and vanilla; mix until fully combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture into the wet ingredients while mixing on low speed until just combined.
- Gently fold in diced Granny Smith apples.
- In a small bowl, mix together the coating ingredients: granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg.
- Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, form dough balls. Roll each ball in the cinnamon sugar mixture before placing them on parchment-lined baking sheets.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until they turn golden brown around the edges but remain soft in the center.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
