- 2 1/4 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 jalapeño, seeded and diced
- 2 tbsp hot sauce
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 2 tbsp horseradish
Instructions
- Combine lukewarm water, yeast, melted butter, brown sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl; let sit until frothy.
- Gradually mix in flour until dough forms; knead until smooth and allow to rise in a covered bowl for one hour.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Divide dough into pieces, roll into ropes, and twist into pretzel shapes.
- Boil water with baking soda; boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds before placing on parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush with beaten egg, sprinkle coarse salt, and bake for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- For cheese dip, melt butter in saucepan over medium heat; whisk in flour then add milk gradually while stirring until thickened.
- Stir in grated cheddar cheese until melted; mix in jalapeño, hot sauce, cayenne pepper, mustard, and horseradish to taste.
