Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp salted butter
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp instant yeast
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 4 cups chopped yellow onions
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh thyme
- 1/4 cup finely shredded parmesan
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 crushed garlic cloves
- 1–2 tbsp fresh thyme
Instructions
- In a skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add chopped onions and cook slowly until golden brown (20-25 minutes), stirring regularly. Add water halfway through to aid caramelization.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Gradually add warm water while stirring until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth.
- Place kneaded dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a parchment-lined baking sheet; shape it into a rectangle about half an inch thick.
- Spread caramelized onions over the dough. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle on crushed garlic cloves, top with parmesan cheese and fresh thyme.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before slicing.
