Ingredients
- 2 (9-inch) pie shells
- 7 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, cut in 1/2-inch slices
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Zest from 1/2 a lemon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Peel, core, and slice the Granny Smith apples into 1/2-inch pieces.
- In a mixing bowl, combine apple slices with white sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and zest. Mix well and let sit for 10 minutes.
- Place one pie shell in your dish and fill it with the apple mixture. Cover with the second pie shell and seal edges by crimping.
- Cut slits in the top crust for steam to escape and apply beaten egg wash if desired.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden brown and bubbling. Allow to cool before slicing.
