Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; mix well.
  3. Gradually combine dry ingredients into wet mixture, forming a soft dough. Chill for at least 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out chilled dough and cut into shapes.
  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool on wire rack.
  6. Prepare royal icing by mixing powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water until stiff peaks form. Divide and color as desired.
  7. Decorate cooled cookies with icing and allow to dry completely.
