- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)
- Gel food coloring in red, blue, and purple
- A few drops of white grape juice or lemon extract (for mixing into "edible paint")
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl; set aside.
- In a larger bowl, beat softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time followed by vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined; avoid overmixing.
- Chill the dough for 30 minutes, then roll into balls and coat with powdered sugar.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes until puffed with cracked tops. Cool before decorating.
- Mix gel food coloring with white grape juice or lemon extract to create edible paint and decorate cooled cookies.
