  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Fresh berries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out puff pastry sheets and cut into equal rectangles.
  2. Place on parchment-lined trays, prick with a fork, cover with another tray, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden. Cool completely.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch; gradually add warm milk.
  4. Return mixture to saucepan and cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
  5. On a serving plate, layer puff pastry and custard alternately until all are used, finishing with pastry.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and add fresh berries if desired.
